ABOUT TRUE STORY LONDON

Founded in 2019 by Michelle Toth with a simple idea - to connect people through stories - True Story London is a welcoming space dedicated to the art of true, personal storytelling in London.

We host two types of monthly events: LIVE shows showcasing an eclectic mix of storytellers, and DRAFT workshops where you can work on, or simply listen to, early drafts of stories in a casual and friendly setting. We also produce the True Story London Podcast featuring standout stories from our shows and interviews with the storytellers.

Our events aren't just performances; they're a reflection of the human experience, a platform for diverse voices, and a space for genuine connection. We hope to see you soon!

We're proud to host monthly True Story LIVE shows at The Phoenix Cavendish Square, where storytellers and audiences come together in a warm and open atmosphere. Find more info and get tickets here.

Our True Story DRAFT social storytelling workshops run monthly at The Kings Arms, Borough. This is an informal and supportive space where you can try out early drafts of true personal stories or simply listen and share feedback with other storytellers. Find more info and sign up here.

Hosted by True Story's founder Michelle Toth, the True Story London Podcast features standout stories from our live shows plus interviews with the storytellers about their background, creative process, and the moments that shaped their story. Listen on your favourite podcast app here.

  • When's the next True Story event?
Check out our What’s On page for all of our upcoming events.
  • How can I tell a story at a True Story LIVE show?
You can find more information about performing and fill out our Storyteller Application Form here. We also recommend attending one of our DRAFT storytelling workshops if you can.
  • I have a stand-up comedy set that includes stories. Can I perform it at True Story?
Whilst we welcome comedic stories, we require them to follow the true personal story form (having a beginning/middle/end that takes us on your journey) as opposed to a collection of jokes or one-liners. We are huge fans of comedy and welcome lighter, funny true stories so long as they are personal, authentic and focus on story.
  • Do I have to tell a story to attend a DRAFT workshop?
No, you’re very welcome to come along to listen and, if you’d like, help provide feedback to others. Listeners are as important as storytellers!
  • Do I have to pay to attend a DRAFT workshop?
Our DRAFT workshops are free to attend as both a storyteller and a listener, with optional £2 or £5 donations towards room rental costs. Prior signup is required for storytellers as slots are limited and preferred for listeners as it helps us plan.
